The founders of The Carmel Foundation valued their community, shared a deep appreciation for the growing needs of their fellow neighbors and recognized the necessity for a friendly, homelike place to meet.

The Carmel Foundation was incorporated as a non-profit organization on April 21, 1950.  The purpose, then, as now, is to provide for successful aging by ensuring seniors can remain engaged with life and maintain their independence.

The Foundation is supported entirely by the generosity of friends; there is no government funding.  In addition to regular annual donations, the Foundation welcomes testamentary bequests, memorial gifts and other special contributions.  A planned giving guide is available from the Development Department.  All such giving is tax deductible.

The Foundation is housed in three buildings located at 8th and Lincoln Streets.  The buildings were constructed in 1974 and 1975 to replace the old "Town House" when funds became available for expanded facilities, mainly through a bequest from Constance E. Diment.

A fourth building opened in the Fall of 1999 at 8th and Dolores Streets, which has been named the Ruth Blanchard House.

The Foundation’s continued success is the result of our members generously volunteering their time, talents and energy.
