In 1926, Dene Denny and Hazel Watrous, two Carmel women, decided to enhance the cultural life of the Monterey Peninsula by creating a local concert association.   The events were so successful that they led a group of local friends and music lovers to establish the Carmel Music Society, an organization devoted to bringing the finest talent in the classical music repertoire to the area.
