Art on the walls of Diment Hall, for every member to enjoy

Pacific Light: Images of the Monterey Peninsula

DOUG STEAKLEY | PHOTOGRAPHY

On display through January 2027

A focused collection of photographs of the Monterey Peninsula, the place Doug calls home. The exhibition shares its name with his 2000 book Pacific Light, which received an Honorable Mention from the National Outdoor Book Awards.

Wednesday afternoon programs in Diment Hall are open to the public. At other times, guests are welcome when they check in at the front desk, and your first visit is free.

A gallery rooted in neighborliness

Art has been front and center at The Carmel Foundation since our founding in 1950. Now, Diment Hall is growing into a dedicated gallery, with rotating exhibitions by Carmel Foundation members and artists from the wider community. Each exhibition runs two to four months in the room where members gather for lunch, classes, lectures, and performances, so the art becomes part of daily life on campus.

The gallery extends our mission to support healthy aging and help older adults live with connection, independence, and purpose. Every piece is labeled with a custom artist plate in a large, high-contrast format, designed for members with low vision.
