Center for Photographic Art Presents the Photo Carmel Lecture Series: Of Memory, Vision and Beyond
Wednesday, April 1
2:30 pm | Diment Hall | Free Refreshments Served | Open to the public
The Center for Photographic Art launches its month-long Celebration of Photography series at The Carmel Foundation with photographer Jerry Takigawa in conversation with San Francisco photographer and book artist Colleen Mullins.
From the Greek meaning “writing with light,” photography—like writing—is a powerful form of self-expression. In a technology-driven world, artists remain essential voices of authenticity and honesty. Jerry and Colleen will discuss Jerry’s artistic journey—from a young photographer with technical knowledge but little to say, to discovering his voice and learning how best to express it—while exploring the risks and rewards of artistic authenticity.
Takigawa’s work is held in major collections including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, and the Brooklyn Museum, and he has received honors including the Imogen Cunningham Award and a California Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship.
