Old Age Is Not for Sissies is a lively staged reading that takes an honest and entertaining look at the many sides of aging. Through poetry, elegies, and short monologues, three versatile actors bring to life the words and experiences of famous and not-so-famous voices, including Lewis Carroll, William Shakespeare, Dorothy Parker, Robinson Jeffers, and Bette Davis.

Some selections are joyful and lyrical; others are thoughtful, candid, or wonderfully irreverent. Together, they create a funny, moving, and very human portrait of growing older.

Playwright and narrator Carol Marquart has written and produced staged readings throughout the Monterey Peninsula featuring fascinating figures from history and popular culture, including John Steinbeck, Mark Twain, Frank Lloyd Wright, Julia Child, Bette Davis, William Randolph Hearst, and even Rasputin.
