Come hear this powerful story brought to life by Terri Lee, a retired nuclear engineer and Bay Area native now based in Carmel. With warmth and insight, she shares the remarkable life of Tye Leung Schulze — a California pioneer who broke barriers as the first Chinese American woman employed by the U.S. federal government, serving as an interpreter at Angel Island.

Raised in San Francisco’s Chinatown, Tye overcame discrimination to help rescue women from human trafficking and, in 1912, became the first Chinese American woman to vote in a U.S. election. She continued her work for decades, supporting immigrant communities through translation and advocacy.
